Perimeter Protection 2012: Importance of effective perimeter protection on the increase
• The focus of this expanding trade fair: outdoor site security
• Congress is ready with current themes dealing with perimeter protection
Turnstiles, gates, barriers, video cameras and access controls – usually these protection measures are to be found outside a building. However, from 17 – 19 January 2012 fences, gates, etc., have a roof over their heads: in the exhibition hall at the Nürnberg Messezentrum, over three days, products and systems will be on display that can be used to secure outdoor sites belonging to commercial, public and private property. We are expecting 2,000 trade visitors from Germany and other countries in Europe are expected to attend Perimeter Protection, where they can gather information from 83 national and international companies about mechanical and electronic security technology. A 54 % increase in exhibitors compared with the first edition of the event is confirmation that this still young fair is holding up a mirror to a market undergoing change.
Perimeter Protection premiered in 2010 with 54 exhibitors. The administrative duo, H & K Messe with Claus Hähnel as managing director and NürnbergMesse with Thorsten Böhm as project leader, are watching the positive development of this event. “This year, we’re welcoming not just the big market leaders, who regard this fair as a must, but also many new companies. The pleasing rise in the number of exhibitors is clear evidence that this event is becoming better known in the sector,” says Mr Hähnel. Thorsten Böhm adds: “A great deal has been achieved since the first edition, like the two-day Congress with an exciting programme that runs alongside the fair. And we’ve been able to secure the services of EPPA European Perimeter Protection Association as a further honorary sponsor at the European level.” Alongside the Gütegemeinschaft Metallzauntechnik – the trade association for quality assurance – EPPA supports this international fair for perimeter protection, fencing and building security from the technical angle.
Congress is ready with solutions for optimal outside security
In the Congress, that runs parallel to the fair, prestigious speakers will deliver 16 lectures on their experiences, trends and recommendations for perimeter protection measures. There will be panel discussions with people in authority and advisers of big industrial enterprises, security agencies, research facilities and planning offices – an opportunity to address all aspects of perimeter protection. Available for the discussion about site protection of sensitive properties and modern security technology will be, for example, representatives of E.ON, BASF, Fraport AG and the Armed Forces Office. Lectures that address security measures from the viewpoint of law enforcement agencies and the Ministry of Justice are of special interest to those participating in the Congress – principally operators and planners responsible for security solutions in outdoor locations. The first Congress day closes with a contribution on perimeter protection that takes the example of Jewish institutions in Germany. On 18 January, issues like qualified staff, the experience of the German army on overseas missions and security techniques for the industrial sector will be addressed. The welcome speech will be held by Peter Reithmeier, who is the managing director of the Verband für Sicherheitstechnik (VfS) – the association of security technology – and responsible for designing the Congress programme.
Lectures in the specialist forum round off the programme
In the midst of everything going on at the fair, the specialist forum (Hall 12, Stand 12-336) is a place where visitors can congregate to listen to contributions from exhibitors and representatives of industry associations. BHE – Bundesverband der Hersteller und Errichterfirmen von Sicherheitssystemen – the National Association of Manufacturers and Installers of Security Systems – is giving a lecture on 17 January on outdoor site monitoring systems – the electronic extension of securing outside areas. On 18 January the focus is on, among other things, fencing systems and rapid-running outside gates. The address by the two honorary sponsors of the fair, EPPA European Perimeter Protection Association and Gutegemeinschaft Metallzauntechnik, will include the new EG Construction Products Regulation.
The German fencing industry looks back on a successful 2011
At this fair both electronic and mechanical security will be presented in one exhibition hall: at Perimeter Protection, electronic systems like video surveillance, burglar alarm systems or access control systems, as well as mechanical protection measures like fences, gates and barriers, will be on display. For the fencing industry, the year 2011 was a successful one. Friedrich Klopotek, the managing director of Fachverband Metallzauntechnik – the association of metal fencing – summarises a positive year: the value of production rose in the first three quarters by 12 percent to 388 million euros. Component manufacturers of gate drives, gate control units and protection equipment recorded even better results over the same period. Klopotek attributes the positive development to the double-digit growth of the building industry in Germany and the resulting high demand potential for fencing and gate installation: “As the revenue side of public budgets becomes less and less constrained the demand for public building work is gradually recovering and, in the second half-year, it rose significantly.”
